Highlights
Rudi Völler's 29th-minute goal proved to be the difference as Germany defeated Spain 1-0 in the group stage of EURO 1988. The win sent Germany into the semi-finals, where they would eventually lose to the Netherlands. Völler's goal came after a cross from Andreas Brehme found him in the box. Völler controlled the ball with his chest and then fired a shot past Spanish goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta. Spain had a chance to equalize in the second half when Michel was awarded a penalty kick. However, Michel's shot was saved by German goalkeeper Bodo Illgner. Germany held on for the win and advanced to the semi-finals, where they would eventually lose to the Netherlands.
