Bali Earthquake: Three Killed, Buildings Damaged

Magnitude 4.8 Earthquake Strikes Indonesian Island

Three people have been killed and several buildings damaged after a magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck Indonesia's Bali island on Tuesday.

The earthquake, which occurred at 5:45 am local time, was centered in the Karangasem regency, about 75 kilometers (47 miles) northeast of the tourist hotspot of Kuta. The quake was felt across the island, causing panic and damage to buildings.

At least three people were killed in the quake, including a 16-year-old girl who was crushed by a falling wall, and a 55-year-old man who died after suffering a heart attack.

Several buildings were also damaged in the quake, including a temple in the village of Banjar, which partially collapsed. The earthquake also caused landslides in some areas, blocking roads and making it difficult for rescue workers to reach affected areas.

The Indonesian National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) has deployed a team of rescuers to the affected area to help with the search for victims and to assess the damage.

The earthquake is the latest in a series of seismic events to hit Indonesia in recent months. In January, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the island of Sulawesi, killing more than 100 people.
